The Piper Analytics story
With a significant history spanning over two decades, Tom Piper & Associates solidified its position as a trusted figure in Botswana’s insolvency and corporate restructuring landscape. Founded by Tom Piper, the firm’s legacy was carefully cultivated by adeptly navigating the intricate terrains of insolvency within Botswana. Guiding businesses through complex financial and legal challenges became its hallmark.
Tom Piper brought a wealth of experience as a Scottish Chartered Accountant with three decades of international exposure. His leadership, particularly during his tenure as the senior partner of KPMG’s Botswana practice between 1990 and 2001, shaped the firm’s trajectory. Even after his passing in 2007, his legacy continues to guide today.

Catherine Piper
Catherine has been the managing director of Tom Piper & Associates for 20 years, effectively managing the company for 16. Her career focus has been on insolvency and investigations, primarily in Botswana and South Africa. Her professional path began with a boutique forensic accounting firm in South Africa before she established her presence in Botswana. She delivered consultancy services to the Big 4 for more than a decade.
In addition to her role in insolvency, Catherine’s expertise extends to areas of governance, management consultancy, and international development. However, her distinct passion lies in insolvency. Her extensive understanding of operational dynamics, the practical challenges faced by companies in developing environments, and a deep insight into the intricate workings make her a significant asset.
Catherine possesses a comprehensive grasp of insolvency law and practice, cultivated through extensive experience spanning various sectors and diverse companies differing in industry, size, and complexity. Having engaged with multiple liquidators, she has gained a valuable understanding of the varied approaches within the field, and she actively accepts appointments herself.
Her contributions expand to the realm of litigation support and data analysis for arbitrations in Botswana, South Africa, and the London Centre for International Arbitration. Her proficiency extends to cross-border insolvency matters. She is particularly adept in contentious situations, effectively managing intricate liquidations and overseeing the trading activities of companies in court-mandated liquidation. Collaborating seamlessly with legal experts, she provides litigation support services and conducts meticulous investigations.
Catherine’s investigatory work often involves comprehensive desk research, with a strong command over both qualitative and quantitative aspects. Her academic journey, encompassing degrees in physics and philosophy from the University of Oxford, along with a Master’s in International Development, lends a holistic dimension to her problem-solving approach.
